Chillie (and everyone) -

Please ZIP your files if zipping will make them smaller. Zipping
files is a courtesy to those who download the files. Not all of
the discussion group users have access to high speed lines, many
still being on phone modem.

I liked the good ole days when anything over 16k needed to posted to
customer-files.

Hi Terry,

I couldn't agree more.

I have expressed my opinion quite strongly on this, with noone taking any
notice.

I'll just continue hitting the Stop button on all the items with attachments
big enough to give me time to do so - about 10 to 20Kb

Hi Anne,

I have. However, when doing it again, I was reminded of the ridiculous
little dialog box they provide for posting your comments. I wrote mine in
Notepad and then clipboarded them to the web site (and below).

However, I suspect the feedback site like a black hole. Data goes in,
possibly gets assessed, but ultimately ignored.

The mind set of the person who made this decision clearly is at odds with
the logic of having a customer files NG, when they set up a system which
removes any advantage in posting large files to the customer files NG, but
encourages posting large files to the discussion area interrupting the flow
of reading messages.

Posting files to the Autodesk Newsgroups.

The not so recent change to the Newgroups to remove the 16Kb limit on
attaching files in the discussion area leads to serious disruption of
reading of the discussions.

This is particularly so for user not having high speed internet access - a
significant proportion of users of the NGs.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE

Revert to the 16K limit, or better yet preclude attachments in the
discussion groups.

Also, the limit of 1Mb in the customer files area is too small. Many users
have need to post defective drawings for review and even zipped, many of
these drawings will not meet a 1Mb limit.

It would seem not at all difficult to automatically divert files with
attachments of a certain size to the customer files with an automatic
message along the lines of:

Message from XXX containing attachments has been placed in the customer
files area.

As you are closing the system down next week, this would seem an ideal time
to do it.

I assure you that the feedback site for the discussion groups IS
READ and listened to. I've also copied off your message and sent
it directly to the team. No promises that the file uploads will
be changed, but your comments will be seen.

I don't knwow the answer to your question. The gentleman who seems to be
the local expert on OLE, R. Robert Bell, doesn't seem to be around
recently.

I copied an pasted an excel spreadsheet into an AutoCAD drawing as an OLE
object so i can update and make changes later. The problem comes in when I
reopen the drawing and manipulate the excel spreadsheet. It will change the
form of the OLE object or it tends to stretched the whole OLE object into
something very weird and it would not change back to it's original look.

...just a guess as I am still on 2002 and cannot open your dwg.
Occasionally word/excel files get "out of whack" in OLE form. They lose
their aspect ratio. For a quick fix adjust by stretching the OLE until it
looks right. If you want something more precise, activate the object, get
the exact size of the printed portion of the sheet, then set the OLE size
accordingly. You will have to deselect "maintain aspect ration" for that to
work. Once to aspect ratio is fixed just scale the object back to the size
you desire.
